The 336x280 at a glance
| 336 x 280 | |
|---|---|
| Size | 336 x 280 px (ratio 6:5, the same shape as 300 x 250) |
| Google's name | Large rectangle |
| Area | About 25% more than a 300 x 250 |
| Where it shows | Inside article text, mostly on desktop |
| File limit | 150 KB for uploaded image ads in Google Ads |
Because it shares the 6:5 shape with the 300 x 250, one layout built to scale can usually serve both. Advertisers who buy fixed sizes tend to make the pair together.
Designing for the middle of an article
A large rectangle interrupts reading, so it competes with the article's own photos and headings. That changes what works:
- Look clearly like an ad for a product. A sharp product shot and a button shape help readers see what it is.
- Spend the extra space on proof, not on more words: a star rating and review count fit here when they would crowd a 300 x 250.
- Keep the headline to one line of five or six words.
- Leave breathing room around the edges. Cramped type looks worse next to body text.
- Check it at real size on a laptop, not zoomed in inside a design tool.
What StoreToAds makes instead
Fixed banner sizes, 336 x 280 included, and HTML5 banners are not offered yet. Each StoreToAds ad comes with the images Google's responsive display ads take: a 1200 x 628 landscape (1.91:1), a 1080 x 1080 square and a 1080 x 1920 vertical. Google's list of common desktop display sizes includes 336 x 280, and responsive display ads adjust to fill it.
Our landscape file shows the full ad design centered on the wider canvas, with the background carried out to the sides, rather than a layout redrawn for that shape. Give Google a mix: these designed images plus a few plain product photos from your store, which its best-practice guide favors.
