Laying out a strip
At 90 pixels tall there is room for one line of type. Read left to right, a leaderboard works like a sentence:
- Logo or brand name on the left, so people know who is talking.
- The product next, cut out and as tall as the strip allows.
- One headline of four to six words in the middle.
- A button on the right edge, where the eye ends up.
Skip two-line copy, review quotes and prices with conditions. If an idea needs explaining, it belongs in a taller format.
What StoreToAds makes instead
We do not make fixed leaderboards or HTML5 banners yet. Each ad includes a 1200 x 628 landscape, a 1080 x 1080 square and a 1080 x 1920 vertical image for Google's responsive display ads, and Google lists 728 x 90 among the common desktop sizes those ads fill. A strip this thin leaves little room for any picture, so in a leaderboard your headline and logo do most of the work.
Our landscape image places the full ad design in the center of the canvas with its background carried to the edges. It is built for landscape and square slots, not for thin strips, which is one more reason to give Google strong headlines.
For exact 728 x 90 files, a designer or a banner tool is the right choice today.
