In short

Is there a free ad grader for Facebook and Instagram ads?

Yes. The StoreToAds ad grader is free with no signup: upload a static ad and an AI model scores it from 1 to 10 on 7 points, from hook to polish, writes one sentence on each and lists the 3 fixes that matter most. It's an opinion of the creative, not a prediction of sales.

The rubric

The 7 things we score

The same 7 points our engine checks on every StoreToAds ad before you see it. Each example below is a sample ad our engine made for a fictional brand.

  1. Sample ad showing hook
    01

    Hook

Does it stop the scroll in the first second?

Strong: One specific reason to stop: a short headline, a big number, a striking visual. You know what it is in a second.

Common miss: A vague headline ("Elevate your routine") or a design that looks like every other post in the feed.

Sora (fictional brand): "Zero sugar. ALL YUZU." fills half the ad, so the point lands at a glance.

  2. Sample ad showing product
    02

    Product

Is the product prominent, uncropped and easy to recognise?

Strong: The product is big, whole and grounded, with a shadow or a surface, so it looks real and easy to recognise.

Common miss: A tiny product, a cropped label, or a lifestyle photo where you can't tell what is being sold.

Mira (fictional brand): the real serum bottle stands in the middle, whole, with four callouts pointing at it.

  3. Sample ad showing hierarchy & balance
    03

    Hierarchy & balance

Is there one clear focal point, then headline, then detail?

Strong: One clear focal point, then the headline, then the details. The eye knows where to go first.

Common miss: Five things of the same size fighting for attention: badges, prices, quotes and logos all shouting at once.

Pip & Oak (fictional brand): the giant 4.9 is read first, then the jar, then the review and the price.

  4. Sample ad showing legibility on a phone
    04

    Legibility on a phone

Can every word be read at feed size?

Strong: Every word reads on a phone at feed size: big enough type, strong contrast, a calm background behind text.

Common miss: Thin or small text, pale colours on photos, and fine print that disappears on a 6-inch screen.

Sora (fictional brand): heavy light type on dark navy, so the customer's quote reads even as a thumbnail.

  5. Sample ad showing brand fit
    05

    Brand fit

Does it look like one consistent brand?

Strong: Colours, fonts, logo and tone of voice all look like one brand, so the ad builds recognition over time.

Common miss: A template's colours and fonts that have nothing to do with your packaging or your store.

Halden (fictional brand): terracotta, cream and black, an editorial serif and the kraft bag feel like one brand.

  6. Sample ad showing originality
    06

    Originality

Does it feel fresh, not like a template?

Strong: A format or idea that feels fresh and native to the feed, not a stock layout with your logo swapped in.

Common miss: The same centred product on a gradient with "SHOP NOW" that people have learned to scroll past.

Mira (fictional brand): a Notes-app checklist that ends with the serum, instead of a standard product layout.

  7. Sample ad showing polish
    07

    Polish

Alignment, spacing, crisp edges, nothing cut off?

Strong: Consistent margins, aligned edges, even spacing, crisp cut-outs and no typos. Nothing touches the edge.

Common miss: Text crammed against the border, uneven gaps, blurry photos, and elements that almost line up but don't.

Pip & Oak (fictional brand): the headline, rating, review cards and button share one left margin.

How it works

A second opinion on your ad, in three steps

  1. 01

    Upload your ad

One static image: PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 8 MB. Feed sizes like 4:5 and 1:1 work best.

  2. 02

    Claude looks at it

An AI model scores 7 things from 1 to 10 and writes one sentence on each, about your ad, not ads in general.

  3. 03

    Get your 3 fixes

The changes that would lift the score most, plus 2 things to keep. Share the link with your team or designer.

What the score means

The overall score is the average of the 7. It's an AI opinion of the creative, not a prediction of clicks or sales: it can't see your audience, your offer or your results. It is strict on purpose: in our tests, well-made professional ads scored around 7 and a cluttered, hard-to-read ad scored about 3.

9-10
Excellent. Ready to run as it is.
7-8
Good. Works, with small things to fix.
5-6
Needs work. Runs, but forgettable or flawed.
1-4
Weak. A clear problem to fix before you spend.

Questions about the ad grader

Is the ad grader really free?

Yes. You get 3 grades a day with no signup and no card. Each grade costs us a little AI time, so there is a daily limit per person and for the whole site.

What can I upload?

One static image ad: PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 8 MB. Feed sizes like 4:5 and 1:1 work best. Videos, carousels and GIFs aren't supported. If the image isn't an ad (a selfie, a screenshot, a plain product photo with nothing added), the grader says so instead of scoring it.

Does the score predict how my ad will perform?

No. It's an AI opinion of the creative: how clear, readable and well made the image is. It can't see your audience, your offer, your landing page or your results. Use it to catch problems before you spend, then let real spend decide which ad wins.

Who grades my ad?

Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, looks at the image with the same 7-point rubric our engine uses to review every StoreToAds ad before you see it: hook, product, hierarchy and balance, legibility on a phone, brand fit, originality and polish. The overall score is the plain average of the 7.

Why can the same ad get a slightly different score?

An AI opinion varies a little from run to run, the way two reviewers would. In our tests the same ad landed within half a point each time. The fixes are the useful part.

What happens to my image?

We keep the image and its score for 7 days so your share link works, then delete them. Your ad is only shown at its share link, and we don't use it to train AI models.

Can StoreToAds make the ads for me?

Yes, soon. Paste your store link and StoreToAds designs ads around your real product photo, reviews each one on these same 7 points, and checks every price and review against your store. Early access opens in small batches: join the list and we'll email you.

Rather skip the design work?

StoreToAds makes ads from your store: your real product photo, never redrawn, every fact checked.
