Sizes by placement
| Placement | Best shape | Meta's recommended minimum | StoreToAds file |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed | 4:5 (1:1 also works) | 1440 x 1800 for 4:5; 1080 x 1080 for 1:1 | 4:5 at 1080 x 1350; 1:1 at 1080 x 1080 |
| Instagram Feed | 4:5 or 1:1 | 1080 x 1080 | 4:5 at 1080 x 1350; 1:1 at 1080 x 1080 |
| Stories (Instagram, Facebook, Messenger) | 9:16 | 1080 x 1080 | 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 |
| Reels (Instagram, Facebook) | 9:16 | 1080 x 1080 | 9:16 at 1080 x 1920, plus a 7-second MP4 |
| Facebook right column, Marketplace | 1:1 | 1200 x 1200 | 1:1 at 1080 x 1080 |
For Stories and Reels, Meta's listed minimum is 1080 x 1080, but the shape you want is still 9:16, which at 1080 px wide means 1080 x 1920.
Safe zones
Meta asks you to keep the top, bottom and side edges of 9:16 ads in Stories and Reels free of key text and logos, and the bottom and side edges of 1:1 and 4:5 ads in Instagram Feed. Turn on the Safe zone guardrail in Ads Manager to see the exact area. Two more points from Meta's help center: on screens taller than 9:16, Meta may zoom the ad and crop beyond the safe zone, and Reels ads with a disclaimer should leave the bottom 40% clear.
As a working rule, many advertisers keep about 14% of the height clear at the top of a 9:16 ad, about 20% at the bottom for Stories and about 35% for Reels.
Which sizes to make first
If you are starting out, make one design in three shapes: 4:5 for feeds, 9:16 for Stories and Reels, and 1:1 for everything square. That is what every StoreToAds ad includes, along with 2:3 for Pinterest and 1.91:1 for Google. The 4:5 is designed and checked first and the others are placed from it, so the product, headline and price never move around between placements.
Send to Meta uploads the 4:5 version as a paused draft. To give Stories and Reels their own 9:16 file, add it in Ads Manager, where you can set a different image per placement. For the full spec sheet, read Meta ad sizes in 2026.
