One vertical file, several homes
| Where | What it asks for | Our 9:16 file |

| Instagram and Facebook Stories | 9:16, 1080 x 1920 | Fits |
| Instagram and Facebook Reels | 9:16, 1080 x 1920; busy bottom edge | Fits; check the bottom line |
| Google responsive display ads (vertical image) | 9:16, 900 x 1600 recommended, 600 x 1067 minimum | Above the recommendation |
How the 9:16 is built
We never re-flow a design into a new shape. The checked 4:5 ad is placed full width in the middle of the 1080 x 1920 canvas, leaving a 285 px band above and below. The bands continue the ad's own background, or show a soft blur when the background is a photo, so the result looks designed for vertical rather than letterboxed.
Those bands land under most of the Story header and reply bar. Reels covers more of the bottom (a common working rule is about 35%), so for Reels check the button or price at the bottom of the design with the Safe zone guardrail in Ads Manager.
Vertical design rules worth keeping
- One idea per screen. Full screen makes clutter worse, not better.
- Product large and central, headline in the upper middle.
- No important words in the top or bottom strips.
- Plan for sound off: the picture has to carry the message.
- A moving version helps in Reels: any ad can become a 7-second 9:16 MP4 on demand.
