In short

What do good Pinterest ads look like?

Good Pinterest ads look like an idea worth saving, not an interruption. They are 2:3, the shape Pinterest recommends, show the product in a room, a recipe or a routine, and put the useful fact on the image itself, because the description doesn't show in the feed. The headline reads at half a phone's width.

12 pins, by the plan they fit

About these pins. Our engine made them on October 17, 2026, for fictional brands, from a product photo and each brand's made-up store data. At that time our 2:3 file was the checked 4:5 design placed on the taller canvas, with its own background carried above and below, which is what you see here. Our engine now tries a layout made for 2:3 first and falls back to the placed version when that layout fails its checks.

Picture it at home

Home pins get saved to boards for a room. These show the product already in one, with the size written where people can see it.

  • Warm beige Hollowfern ad: 'Let the room exhale.' above a speckled oat ceramic vase holding olive branches, with a smaller vase on stacked books. A note reads '10 in tall, one of a kind'. A card shows 4.9 from 527 reviews and a 'Shop the Ripple Vase · $64' button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    Home decorLifestyle type

    Hollowfern: Let the room exhale.

A vase in a real corner, with branch shadows on the wall. The handwritten '10 in tall, one of a kind' answers the size question home shoppers have, on the image, where the feed shows it.

  • Warm cream Tallgrove ad: 'The quiet corner, finished.' over a photo of a round oak side table with books and a lamp beside a boucle chair and an olive tree. A card gives size and material, free shipping, and a 'Shop now $245' button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    FurnitureLifestyle type

    Tallgrove: The quiet corner, finished.

A finished reading corner, with the side table holding books and a lamp. The card gives the size (18 in wide, 22 in tall), the wood and free shipping, so the pin is still useful when someone comes back to it weeks later.

  • Dark green Duneloft ad: '“Softest linen I've ever slept on.”' with five tan stars, a note from Claire D. that it is cooler on hot nights, two smaller review cards, 4.8 from 1,513 reviews, a 'Shop the set' button and an oat linen bed. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    BeddingReview card

Duneloft: “Softest linen I've ever slept on.”

A bed people can imagine sleeping in, and a review that adds a second reason to buy: cooler on hot nights. Bedding gets planned around seasons, and this pin speaks to two of them.

Gifts people plan ahead

Gift pins are saved well before they're bought. Make the pin answer 'what is it' and 'who is it for' on its own.

  • Dark plum Bowfinch ad: 'Five cozy things. One box.' above an open maroon gift box with numbered callouts for a soy candle, loose-leaf tea, dark chocolate, merino socks and a stoneware mug, plus a 'Get the box, $68' button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    GiftsAnnotated hero

Bowfinch: Five cozy things. One box.

Five numbered labels show everything inside the box, so the pin is a full answer to 'what's in it'. Someone who saved it a month ago still knows what $68 buys.

  • Warm cream and wood-toned Sugarthorn Bakery ad: 'Send the cookie box that gets a phone call.' with 'phone call.' highlighted in yellow. An open kraft cookie box with a handwritten note, a glass of milk, a split chocolate chip cookie, a five-star review quote and a 'Send a box · $38' button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    BakeryLifestyle type

Sugarthorn Bakery: Send the cookie box that gets a phone call.

The headline promises a reaction, a phone call, and the open box with a handwritten note shows the gift. The review about a mom calling in tears backs it up.

Recipes, routines and how-tos

Pins that teach get saved to come back to. These turn the product into steps, notes or a pairing.

  • Off-white phone notes screen with a green wedge. Jadecliff Tea Co. ad: 'Morning ritual' as a checklist (80°C, 2 g matcha, 70 ml water, whisk, enjoy), 'restock the tin' unchecked, a quote from Daniel R., a $32 tag, the tin and a 'Shop the tin' button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    TeaNotes-app list

    Jadecliff Tea Co.: Morning ritual

A notes-app checklist with real steps: 80°C, 2 g of matcha, 70 ml of water, whisk. It reads like a recipe someone saved, and the one unchecked item, 'restock the tin', is the ad.

  • Dark brown Brindlewood ad: 'Cherry. Toasted nuts. Caramel.' with a handwritten note, best with espresso. A teal 72% Dark bar sits open on a wooden board beside an espresso cup and cherries, with a 4.9 rating and a 'Shop the bar · $9' button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    ChocolateLifestyle type

    Brindlewood: Cherry. Toasted nuts. Caramel.

Three tasting notes in big type and 'best with espresso' written beside them. The bar on a board with cherries and a cup looks like a pairing idea, the kind of thing food boards collect.

  • Orange Pepperwick ad: 'FERMENTED 30 DAYS. Worth the wait.' with a Smoked Habanero hot sauce bottle and two habaneros on taped paper, labels for vegan, smoked, 6/10 heat and 30 days, 4.9 from 1,537 reviews, and a $12 shop button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    FoodAnnotated hero

    Pepperwick: FERMENTED 30 DAYS.

Labels walk through the sauce part by part: vegan, smoked, 6/10 heat, fermented 30 days. People who cook compare details like these, and the pin answers them before the click.

  • Cream Penmoor Paper Co. ad: 'notebook, ideal:' as a phone Notes checklist with five ticked features and an empty box for a pen, a $24 price pill with free shipping over $35, three stacked notebooks, and a 4.9 star review quote. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    StationeryNotes-app list

    Penmoor Paper Co.: notebook, ideal:

A wish list for the perfect notebook, ticked off one feature at a time: 120 gsm paper, lies flat, numbered pages. The empty last box, 'find a pen worthy of it', keeps people reading.

People also search Pinterest, often with a question. These pins answer one in the headline, which suits someone who typed it.

  • Dark navy and cream Farhaven ad: 'How does a 22-inch bag hold a week of clothes?' answered by 'A compression panel. 39 liters. 7.9 lb.' beside a slate hardside carry-on, a five-star Japan quote, 4.8 from 2,875 reviews, a 'Shop the Carry-On' button and $245. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    LuggageQuestion hook

Farhaven: How does a 22-inch bag hold a week of clothes?

The headline is the search, 'how does a 22-inch bag hold a week of clothes?', and the answer sits right under it: a compression panel, 39 liters, 7.9 lb. A traveler planning a trip saves answers like this.

  • Dark green Oatlet ad: 'MYTH: A swaddle only swaddles.' struck through in pink, then 'FACT: One set, four jobs.' with a list of four uses, a photo of folded green, cream and pink muslin swaddles, a review quote, 4.9 stars, and a 'Get the set of 3' button at $42. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    Baby productsMyth vs fact

Oatlet: MYTH: A swaddle only swaddles.

A myth crossed out and four uses listed: one set of swaddles, four jobs. On a baby registry board, a pin that lists four uses for one purchase is the useful kind.

Fictional sample brand · made by our engine

  • Dark green Elderhush ad: 'Fir, cedar, bergamot, rosemary.' above a photo of an amber dropper bottle of Forest Morning, with four note callouts, a 100% pure essential oils tag, about 300 drops per bottle, 4.8 from 1,328 reviews and a $22 button. Shown in the 2:3 size.

    Essential oilsIngredient spotlight

    Elderhush: Fir, cedar, bergamot, rosemary.

Four scent notes named one by one: fir, cedar, bergamot, rosemary. Someone looking for a woodsy diffuser blend gets the answer in the headline, and '100% pure essential oils' and 'about 300 drops' fill in the rest.

The same pins at feed size

On a phone, Pinterest's feed shows pins two to a row, so each one is about half the screen wide. This is six of the pins above at that width. The headlines and the products still read; the small print and the review lines don't, which is why the useful fact belongs in the headline.

What makes a pin work as an ad

  • It's useful on its own. People save pins to come back to later. A pin that names the product, its size or its use is still useful when they do.
  • The fact is on the image. The description doesn't show in the home or search feed, and only the first 40 or so characters of the title may show. Whatever people need to know goes on the pin.
  • The headline reads at half width. Two to a row on a phone, a pin is about half the screen wide. One big line and a large product survive that; paragraphs don't.
  • It isn't pure white at the edges. In light mode Pinterest lays a faint black layer, at 4% opacity, over pins with a white or near-white background. Warm off-whites, like the beige and cream pins above, keep their color.
  • It stays 2:3. Pinterest says pins with a taller ratio might get cut off in people's feeds.

Five mistakes to avoid on Pinterest

  • A feed ad uploaded as it is. A square or 4:5 image works, but it shows shorter than the 2:3 pins around it and gives up space.
  • Key words only in the description. The feed doesn't show it. Put the product name and the reason to buy on the pin.
  • A title whose point comes after the 40th character. Depending on the device, that's where it may be cut.
  • A countdown or a 'today only' offer. People save pins and come back weeks later. An offer that has ended makes the saved pin wrong.
  • Small type sized for a desktop screen. Check the pin at half a phone's width, as in the feed preview above.

Questions about Pinterest ads

What type of ads are on Pinterest?

Pinterest's ad spec guide covers standard image ads, video ads, carousels, collections, shopping ads, idea ads, showcase ads and quiz ads, among others. For a product brand, the standard 2:3 image ad is the one to get right first.

What size should a Pinterest ad be?

2:3. Pinterest recommends 1000 x 1500 pixels for standard image ads and says taller pins might get cut off in the feed. Carousel cards can be 1:1 or 2:3.

Is it worth it to run ads on Pinterest?

It depends on what you sell. Pinterest suits products people plan around: home, gifts, food, weddings, travel and routines. If yours fits a plan people make ahead of time, test a few pins on a small budget and compare the cost per sale with your other channels.

How many words should be on a Pinterest ad?

As few as make the point at half a phone's width. Pinterest limits the text on showcase and quiz images to 10 words. It sets no word limit for standard pins, but most headlines on this page are under ten words.

Can a Pinterest ad be a carousel?

Yes. A carousel has 2 to 5 images, each 1:1 or 2:3. Pinterest charges a promoted carousel's impressions as one ad, not per swipe, and reports it as a single Pin.

Does StoreToAds post ads to Pinterest?

No. Every paid design includes a 2:3 pin at 1000 x 1500 to download, and you upload it in Pinterest Ads Manager. Sending ads directly is Meta only today.
