prompt for cosmetic products

Makeup ad prompts, tested on one lip tint

In colour cosmetics the shade is the product, and a shopper who orders Fig expects fig in the tube. We ran five common prompts for cosmetic products for Rosequill, a fictional brand, through the image models behind ChatGPT and Gemini and a Midjourney-style keyword prompt. The prettiest output had the wrong colour; one spelled the brand with an extra letter.

Updated · Every prompt ran once on October 17, 2026, for a fictional brand. Nothing was retried or cherry-picked.

In short

What is a good AI prompt for a makeup ad?

Attach a photo of the real tube and a real swatch, and say the packaging, the name on it and the shade must stay exactly as photographed. Quote the text you want and ban ingredients you didn't list. In our test, prompts without the photo changed the shade or spelled the brand wrong.

The five prompts, run for real

Rosequill · Velvet Lip Tint, Shade Fig · $22 · 4.7 from 1,689 reviews · fictional

Rosequill's product page: Velvet Lip Tint in shade Fig, $22, 6 ml; a soft-matte velvet finish that builds from a sheer stain to full colour in one or two swipes; wears up to 8 hours without drying lips, thanks to squalane and rosehip oil; doubles as a cheek tint; 6 shades; vegan and cruelty-free; rated 4.7 from 1,689 reviews. A to C had no photo; D and E had the packshot shown here.

  1. AI output for the first prompt: a wide lip tint tube with a rose gold cap and a raspberry-red liquid, a matching swatch and roses on a pink background, with five feature lines, a Fig shade badge, $22 and a Shop now button.
Made with GPT-5.4 Image 2 (OpenAI, through the OpenRouter API), October 17, 2026, for a fictional brand.

    The ChatGPT tube-and-swatch prompt

Tube, swatch, pink backdrop, a list of benefits: the template behind most beauty ai prompts for lip products.

    The prompt, word for word

Create a beauty Instagram ad for my makeup brand ROSEQUILL. Product: Velvet Lip Tint in shade Fig, soft-matte velvet finish, wears up to 8 hours, squalane and rosehip oil, lip and cheek tint, vegan and cruelty-free, $22. Show the tube with a swatch on a pink background. Include the brand name, product name, shade, price and a "Shop now" button.

    What went right

    • All five features are listed as given: soft-matte velvet, up to 8 hours, squalane and rosehip oil, lip and cheek, vegan and cruelty-free.
    • Brand, product, shade name and $22 are spelled right, and the layout is a finished ad.

    What went wrong

    • The colour is a raspberry red. Fig is a muted berry, and that difference is exactly what a buyer is choosing.
    • The packaging is a new design: a wider tube, the name set across it, and a little quill drawing that isn't on Rosequill's tube.

Could you run it? Good-looking, and selling a shade the brand doesn't make. For lip colour that alone rules it out.

  2. AI output for the second prompt: a close-up of a smiling model wearing a berry lip colour beside a tube with a script Rosequill logo, under the headline Kissably soft finish, effortless color., with three benefits, the rating and $22 USD.
Made with Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image) (Google, through the OpenRouter API), October 17, 2026, for a fictional brand.

    Prompt BGemini-style prompt, no photo

    The Gemini beauty campaign prompt

A model's lips, the tube beside her, and copy left to the AI: how most "prompt for cosmetic products" examples are written.

    The prompt, word for word

Generate a makeup advertisement for Rosequill Velvet Lip Tint in Fig ($22). Close-up of a model's lips wearing the berry-fig tint, the rose-gold cap tube beside her. Write a catchy headline and three benefits, add "4.7 stars from 1,689 reviews" and the price. Soft pink, glossy beauty campaign look.

    What went right

    • The berry colour on the lips is close to Fig, and the rating reads 4.7 stars from 1,689 reviews.
    • The model's face, teeth and skin look natural.

    What went wrong

    • A benefit says the tint is "infused with rose extract". The formula lists squalane and rosehip oil; rose extract isn't in it.
    • The tube carries a flowing script logo instead of Rosequill's upright serif.
    • The headline, "Kissably soft finish, effortless color.", could sell any lip product.

Could you run it? The closest colour of the no-photo runs, with an ingredient made up for it. Fix the copy and the logo before using any of it.

  3. AI output for the third prompt: a plum tube with a rose gold cap and vertical lettering that reads Roseequill, in front of a glossy beige smear on a dusty pink background.
Made with FLUX.2 Pro (Black Forest Labs, through Higgsfield), October 17, 2026, for a fictional brand.

    What went right

    • The tube shape and rose gold cap are close to Rosequill's.
    • Soft light and a clean backdrop give a usable editorial feel.

    What went wrong

    • The tube reads "ROSEEQUILL", with an extra E.
    • The swatch is a glossy beige nude. The prompt asked for fig twice.
    • No headline or price: a photo to build on, not an ad.

Could you run it? Two errors a customer would spot in a second: the name and the colour. Not usable for this product.

  4. AI output for the fourth prompt: Rosequill's tube reading Rosequill Velvet Lip Tint Fig on a pink marble tray beside a dried rose and a fig swatch, under the headline Sheer to full in two swipes, with Wears up to 8 hours and $22.
Made with GPT Image 2.5 (OpenAI, through Higgsfield), October 17, 2026, for a fictional brand.

    The prompt, word for word

Here is my product photo. Turn it into an Instagram ad for my makeup brand Rosequill. Put the tube on a pink marble tray next to a dried rose, with the fig swatch. Keep the tube, the cap and the text on it exactly as they are. Add the headline "Sheer to full in two swipes", "Wears up to 8 hours" and the price $22.

    What went right

    • The tube, cap and vertical lettering match the packshot, down to VELVET LIP TINT · FIG.
    • The swatch keeps the muted berry of the real shade.
    • Headline, wear time and price are word for word, with nothing added.

    What went wrong

    Nothing we could find.

Could you run it? Ready to run. The photo carried the shade, and the prompt carried the only claims on it.

  5. AI output for the fifth prompt: a close-up of a woman applying berry lip colour with a doe-foot wand while holding the Rosequill tube upside down in her other hand, under a band reading Velvet Lip Tint in Fig, $22.
Made with Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) (Google, through Higgsfield), October 17, 2026, for a fictional brand.

Prompt EGemini-style prompt with the product photo

Gemini with the lip tint photo

Application shots sell lip colour; with Nano Banana, owners now make them from one packshot.

    The prompt, word for word

Use this exact lip tint. Show a woman applying it to her lips with the doe-foot wand, close-up, soft daylight. Do not change the tube, the cap or the shade. Add the text "Velvet Lip Tint in Fig, $22" at the top.

    What went right

    • The colour on her lips matches the tube, and the tube's lettering is intact (upside down, as you'd hold it).
    • Hands, wand and lips look natural in close-up, a hard shot for image models.

    What went wrong

    • The title sits in a band above the photo rather than on it.

Could you run it? A convincing application shot. For colour cosmetics, still compare it with a real swatch under daylight.

What the five runs show for makeup

For lip colour, the miss that matters isn't spelling, though one run managed "ROSEEQUILL". It's the shade. Without the photo, one run went raspberry and another beige, and only the run where the model invented the lips came close to Fig.

With the packshot attached, both models kept the tube, the lettering and the colour. The application shot from Nano Banana Pro is the kind of image that usually needs a model and a studio.

Two things still sit with you: checking the shade against the real product on a real screen, and keeping out ingredients you don't use. A made-up "rose extract" is a small line with a real consequence for anyone who reads labels. Lines that stay within the page are on our makeup ad ideas page.

  1. 01

    The shade-true hero

    For any colour product.

Use the attached photos of my [PRODUCT] and its swatch exactly as they are: packaging, printed text and colour must not change. Place the product on [SURFACE] next to the swatch in neutral daylight, no colour grading or tint. Add only: headline "[HEADLINE FROM MY PAGE]", shade "[SHADE NAME]", price "[PRICE]". Portrait 4:5.
  2. 02

    The application shot

To show how the colour goes on.

Keep the attached product unchanged and show it being applied with its own [APPLICATOR, e.g. doe-foot wand], close-up, natural skin texture, soft daylight. The colour on the [LIPS / CHEEKS] must match the swatch photo I attached. No text, no retouching that changes the colour.
  3. 03

    The two-uses ad

When one product does two jobs.

Use the attached product photo unchanged in the centre. On the left write "[USE ONE]" and on the right "[USE TWO]", both copied from my product page, with a small swatch under each. Add "[PRICE]" at the bottom. Nothing else.
  4. 04

    The shade lineup

When you sell several shades and have a photo of each.

Place the attached product photos side by side in this order: [SHADE 1], [SHADE 2], [SHADE 3]. Do not change any tube, label or colour. Under each, write its shade name exactly as I typed it. One line at the top: "[NUMBER] shades, [PRICE] each".
  5. 05

    The shade check

    Before you download.

Compare the colour of the product and swatch in your image with the photos I attached. Describe any difference in hue, depth or finish, and check the spelling of every word on the packaging. Then make a corrected version that changes nothing else.

Tips for each tool, for makeup

ChatGPT

  • Attach both the tube and a swatch. Our run with the packshot kept the muted fig; the run from words alone went raspberry.
  • Write "no colour grading or tint" for colour products. Warm, moody lighting changes the shade a buyer sees.
  • Spell out the shade name in the text you give it, and check the lettering on the tube at full size.

Gemini

  • Nano Banana Pro handled a close-up application shot well when told not to change the tube or shade. Hands and wands are worth asking for.
  • If you let it write benefits, read each one against your label. Ours added "rose extract".
  • Ask for the text over the photo; it tends to add a title band above instead.

Midjourney-style tools

  • Colour words like "berry fig" are weak instructions; our keyword run returned a nude swatch. Fix the colour with a photo, not adjectives.
  • Brand names in quotes can still come back misspelled (ROSEEQUILL). Never trust the product text in a keyword render.
  • Use these renders for backdrops and props, and composite your real tube on top.

Questions about makeup ad prompts

What is a good prompt for cosmetic products?

Lead with your own product photo and a real swatch, then the setting, then the exact words in quotes, and ban ingredients and claims you didn't list. The five prompts above follow that order for heroes, application shots, two-use products and shade lineups.

What are some examples of makeup advertisements?

Small brands mostly run four kinds: a shade hero next to its swatch, an application close-up, a review with the rating, and a lineup of shades. This page shows five AI tool attempts and two engine-made ads for the same lip tint side by side.

Can ChatGPT make a makeup ad?

Yes. From a description it made a finished ad with every word right but a raspberry shade and a redesigned tube. With the packshot attached, it kept the tube, lettering and colour. For colour products, the photo is the difference.

Why does AI get my lipstick shade wrong?

Colour names mean little to an image model, and lighting styles like warm or moody shift hue on top. Without a photo it picks a colour that fits the words. Attach the product and a swatch, and ask for neutral daylight with no tint.

Can AI show a model wearing my lip colour?

Yes, and our Nano Banana Pro run did it convincingly from one packshot. Check the colour against a real swatch on an uncalibrated phone screen too, since that's where most shoppers will see it.

What is a good slogan for makeup?

One that states something the product does, in few words: "Sheer in one swipe. Bold in two." or "One tube. Lips and cheeks." Generic lines like "effortless color" fit every brand and sell none in particular.

Is ChatGPT or Gemini better for makeup ads?

With the photo attached, both kept the shade and the tube in our single runs. Without it, the Gemini prompt got closest on colour but invented an ingredient, and the keyword prompt misspelled the name. Run your own product through both before deciding.

How should I photograph a lip product for AI tools?

Shoot the tube straight on with the name readable, plus a swatch on a white card, both in daylight with no filter. The tools copy what they're shown, so a colour-accurate photo is the best prompt you can write.

How do I advertise my makeup brand?

Show the colour honestly, show it being applied, and let reviews talk about wear and comfort. Lead with one shade per ad rather than the whole range. Our guide to advertising makeup covers channels and a first budget.
