# Print on demand ads that sell the design, not the mockup (with real examples)

Source: https://storetoads.com/ad-ideas/print-on-demand/

Print on demand stores share the same blanks, the same suppliers and often the same mockup templates, so their ads tend to look alike. What can't be copied is the drawing, the story behind it, and proof that the printed shirt looks as good as the picture. Below are seven ads our engine made for Mossworth Press, a fictional shop selling illustrated tees and totes printed to order.

*Updated October 17, 2026. The sample ads are for a fictional brand, made by our engine.*

## What makes a good print on demand ad?

A good print on demand ad sells the design and proves the product: a real photo of the printed item, worn or carried, with the fabric, print method, sizes and how long it takes to make and ship. Give the drawing a reason to exist, and use mockups for testing designs rather than as the proof in an ad.

## Seven print on demand ads for Mossworth Press

Mossworth Press is a fictional brand. Its product page: the Mushroom Club tee in natural, a hand-drawn illustration printed with water-based inks on 100% organic cotton, printed when you order, unisex relaxed fit in S-3XL, ships in 3-5 business days, also as a $24 tote, $32, rated 4.8 from 1,154 reviews, free shipping on 2 or more items.

### Mossworth Press: Market day, but make it mushrooms.

![Dark green Mossworth Press ad: 'Market day, but make it mushrooms.' over a photo of a person in a natural Mushroom Club tee holding a matching tote at a mushroom stall, with a 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, a buyer quote, $32.00 and a 'Shop the tee' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-02.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Lifestyle type. Reason to buy: Social proof.*

The design gets worn where it belongs, at a market stall of mushrooms, so the photo tells you who the shirt is for. The review about strangers asking where it's from sells the social payoff of a niche design better than any adjective.

Store facts used: $32.00, 4.8 from 1,154 reviews, Jonah S. quote, 100% organic cotton, hand-drawn, unisex S-3XL.

Matched by the fact check: $32.00, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, 100%, organic, 1 review quote, word for word.

### Mossworth Press: Unpopular opinion: A tee should be made after you order it.

![Cream Mossworth Press ad: 'Unpopular opinion: A tee should be made after you order it.' with 'after you order it' underlined in red. A natural Mushroom Club tee sits on a taped green card, with 4.8 from 1,154 reviews and a 'Get the Mushroom Club tee, $32' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-01.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Unpopular opinion. Reason to buy: Transparency.*

Printing on demand is usually hidden as a weakness (it takes a few days); this ad makes it the point. One wording note: "no overstock" is the part a POD shop can prove outright, while "no waste" is an absolute environmental claim that, under the FTC's Green Guides, needs evidence or a qualifier.

Store facts used: Printed on demand, hand-drawn, 100% organic cotton, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, $32.

Matched by the fact check: $32, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, 100%, organic.

### Mossworth Press: Field notes on a mushroom tee.

![Dark green Mossworth Press ad: 'Field notes on a mushroom tee.' with a natural tee showing a Mushroom Club mushroom print, four labeled callouts (illustration, fit, inks, cotton), a 4.8 star review quote and a 'Get yours, $32' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-06.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Annotated hero. Reason to buy: Craft.*

Labeled lines run from the tee to four short notes, so the ad reads like a field guide plate and each feature sits right next to the part of the shirt it describes. The review and price sit below.

Store facts used: $32, hand-drawn illustration, unisex S-3XL, water-based inks, 100% organic cotton, 4.8 from 1,154 reviews, Maya P. quote.

Matched by the fact check: $32, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, 100%, organic, 1 review quote, word for word.

### Mossworth Press: “Super soft, true to size, and the tote matches perfectly.”

![Dark green Mossworth Press ad: '“Super soft, true to size, and the tote matches perfectly.”' from Erin C., verified buyer, with two shorter reviews, a 4.8 rating from 1,154 reviews, a tote bag photo and a 'Shop the Mushroom Club set' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-03.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Review card. Reason to buy: Social proof.*

Three reviews cover the three doubts a POD shopper has: fit, how long it takes, and whether people notice. "Arrived in 4 days" sits comfortably inside the store's 3-5 business day promise, which is what makes it safe to feature.

Store facts used: Quotes from Erin C., Felix A. and Jonah S., printed when you order, arrived in 4 days, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, Mushroom Club tote.

Matched by the fact check: 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, 4 days, 3 review quotes, word for word.

[The 2:3 Pinterest version](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-03-2x3.webp)

### Mossworth Press: Tee + tote. Shipping's on us.

![Burnt orange Mossworth Press ad: 'Tee + tote. Shipping's on us.' with a yellow FREE SHIPPING badge on 2 or more items, a natural Mushroom Club tee and matching tote, $32 and $24 price circles, 4.8 stars from 1,154 reviews and a 'Build your set' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-07.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Bold poster. Reason to buy: Offer.*

An offer ad built on the store's real rule, free shipping on 2 or more items, with the tee and the tote side by side so the second item is obvious. The rule is printed on the badge, not left for checkout.

Store facts used: Tee $32, tote $24, free shipping on 2 or more items, 4.8 from 1,154 reviews.

Matched by the fact check: $32, $24, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, free shipping.

[The 2:3 Pinterest version](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-07-2x3.webp)

### Mossworth Press: ok where did you get that shirt??

![Light off-white Mossworth Press ad in a text message layout: 'ok where did you get that shirt??' followed by blue reply bubbles about the Mushroom Club tee, a tote bag photo, $32 tee, $24 tote, and a 'Shop Mossworth Press' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-05.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Text thread. Reason to buy: Word of mouth.*

It looks like a real text thread, so the recommendation reads as a friend's reply. The tote photo and the free shipping on 2 items come as natural follow-up texts.

Store facts used: $32 tee, $24 tote, free shipping on 2 or more items, 4.8 from 1,154 reviews, print holds up after a dozen washes.

Matched by the fact check: $32, $24, $32.00, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews.

[The 2:3 Pinterest version](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-05-2x3.webp)

### Mossworth Press: Read this before you buy another tee.

![Green Mossworth Press ad: 'Read this before you buy another tee.' on a taped paper note with a three-point checklist, a 4.8 from 1,154 reviews badge, a woman in the Mushroom Club tee with a tote, and a 'Meet the Mushroom Club tee, $32' button.](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-04.webp)

*Fictional sample brand, made by our engine. Format: Read this first. Reason to buy: Craft.*

The checklist is written like a note you would pin up, so it reads as advice first and an ad second. The photo of the tee on a person sits right beside the three points it answers.

Store facts used: $32, 4.8 from 1,154 reviews, hand-drawn illustration, 100% organic cotton, water-based inks, printed on demand, also a tote.

Matched by the fact check: $32, 4.8 rating, 1,154 reviews, 100%, organic.

### The same ad in all five sizes

- [4:5](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-02.webp)
- [1:1](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-02-1x1.webp)
- [9:16](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-02-9x16.webp)
- [2:3](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-02-2x3.webp)
- [1.91:1](https://storetoads.com/samples/ads/mossworth-02-1_91x1.webp)

The market-day ad in all five sizes. A worn shirt is a hard crop: the print has to stay whole on the chest in every frame. Here the illustration and the tote stay in view from the tall 9:16 story to the wide 1.91:1, with the review card moved so it never covers the design.

## What makes a print on demand ad work: four reasons people buy

Print on demand buyers aren't buying a t-shirt; they can get one anywhere. They're buying a design that says something about them, on a product that has to hold up. Each reason needs its own proof.

### 1. The design, and what it says

A niche illustration is a badge: mushroom people, cat people, trail people. The buyer pictures being recognised by others who share the interest.

**Proof the ad needs:** The design shown large and real, the fact that it's hand-drawn (if it is), and a review about the reaction it gets: "Strangers stop me to ask where it's from."

### 2. A blank worth printing on

POD shoppers have been burned by thin shirts and prints that crack. The garment's quality decides whether the design gets worn twice.

**Proof the ad needs:** Fabric and fit (100% organic cotton, unisex relaxed, S-3XL), the print method (water-based inks), and a wash review: "hasn't faded after a dozen washes."

### 3. Made to order, here on time

Printing on demand adds days, and buyers want to know how many before they order, especially for gifts.

**Proof the ad needs:** Production and shipping time in plain words (ships in 3-5 business days), and a review about delivery that fits inside that promise.

### 4. A set worth ordering together

Matching items raise order value, and free shipping on a second item turns one shirt into a set.

**Proof the ad needs:** Both items shown with the same print, both prices, and the shipping rule written on the ad.

## Photo checklist for print on demand ads

The single biggest upgrade for a POD shop is ordering samples of its bestsellers and photographing them. These shots, from real samples, cover every ad on this page.

- **A flat lay of a real printed sample.** Shows the true print colors on the true fabric. Lay it on a textured surface, smoothed but not ironed flat.
- **Worn, somewhere the design belongs.** A market for a mushroom tee, a trail for a hiking design. The setting tells the viewer who it's for before they read anything.
- **Print close-up.** Water-based ink, DTG and screen print look different up close. A sharp close-up shows detail and that the print isn't a plastic patch.
- **Fit on two body types.** Unisex sizing from S to 3XL means little until shoppers see it on more than one body.
- **The set together.** Tee and tote, or tee and mug, with the same design. It sells the second item without a word.
- **After washing.** If you've washed a sample a dozen times and it held up, photograph it and say so. It's proof most POD shops never show.
- **Every color you sell, for real.** Mockup colors are idealized. Photograph each garment color you offer, because ink looks different on each one.

## Mockups or real photos: when each one fits

Mockups are how POD shops test designs without buying stock, and that's a fair use. The trouble starts when a mockup is the only proof in a paid ad: printed colors often come out flatter than a mockup shows, especially on dark shirts, and buyers notice when the parcel arrives.

| Image | Good for | The risk |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Flat mockup template | Testing which designs get clicks | Colors and print size look better than the real print |
| Mockup on a stock model | Early tests of how a design reads when worn | Looks like every other shop using the same template |
| Real sample, flat lay | Product pages and ads with callouts | Needs a sample order per design |
| Real sample, worn | Your main ads | Takes a shoot; worth it for bestsellers |

A workable rule: test with mockups, then order a sample of anything that sells and replace the mockup in its ads with real photos. If an ad still uses a mockup, make sure the colors match what you actually ship.

## Print on demand ad copy lines you can adapt

POD copy has two jobs: make the design's audience feel seen, and make the made-to-order wait feel normal. Replace Mossworth's details with yours.

- **Hand-drawn. Printed when you order.** Turns the POD model into a point of pride.
- **Unpopular opinion: a tee should be made after you order it.**
- **100% organic cotton, water-based inks, S to 3XL.** Only with your supplier's certification for the cotton.
- **Printed and shipped in 3 to 5 business days.** Use your supplier's real production time.
- **Tee + tote. Shipping's on us.** For a free-shipping threshold of two items.
- **"Strangers stop me to ask where it's from."** A real review, the social payoff of a niche design.
- **Field notes on a mushroom tee.** A callout layout that reads like a nature guide.
- **Printed to order, so nothing sits in a warehouse unsold.**
- **For people who stop for every mushroom.** Names an interest, never a personal attribute.

### Lines to leave out of print on demand ads

| Avoid | Why | Say instead |
| --- | --- | --- |
| "Zero waste" or "no waste" | Printing to order cuts overstock, but misprints, returns and packaging still create waste. The FTC's Green Guides expect environmental claims to be specific and provable. | "Printed when you order, so there's no unsold stock." |
| "Arrives by Christmas" with no cutoff | The FTC's Mail Order Rule requires a reasonable basis for any shipping promise, and POD production time comes before the carrier's time. | "Order by Thu, Dec 10 for Christmas delivery" (your own date, worked back from production and shipping). |
| Band logos, film quotes or a brand's name in the design | Meta's rules prohibit ads that violate copyright or trademark, and rights holders actively report borrowed designs. | Original art, and your own words. |
| "Billy, this shirt is for you" | Meta's personal attributes policy uses this exact case: an ad naming the viewer ("Billy Taylor, get this t-shirt with your name in print!") isn't allowed; "We print customizable t-shirts with your name" is. | "Custom tees with any name you choose." |
| A mockup color you don't sell | Showing a product the buyer can't receive misleads, and FTC rules require ads to be truthful. | Only the garment colors in your store, photographed for real where you can. |

## Print on demand claims: shipping times, designs, names and green words

POD products aren't restricted on Meta, but the model creates its own risks: production adds days, designs borrow from culture, personalized products tempt ads that address the viewer, and "made to order" sounds like an eco claim.

- **Shipping times.** The FTC's Mail Order Rule applies to online orders: you need a reasonable basis to ship within the time you advertise, or within 30 days if you don't state one, and if you can't, you must offer the buyer the choice of a delay or a prompt refund. For POD, the time you advertise has to include your supplier's production days.
- **Other people's designs.** Meta's intellectual property policy says ads may not contain content that violates anyone's copyright or trademark, and ads can be removed after a rights holder reports them. Fan designs, logos and lyrics are the usual problems.
- **Names and identities.** Meta's personal attributes policy doesn't allow ads that assert or imply personal attributes, a list that includes race, religion, age, health and a person's name. Its own example of a banned ad is a t-shirt offered to a named person. Describe the product, not the viewer.
- **Green and organic words.** The Green Guides ask for specific environmental claims. For "organic cotton", USDA's guidance says the fibers called organic must be certified, that textiles made to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) may be sold as organic, and that the USDA seal is only for products certified to USDA organic rules.

> Ask your print supplier for its production times in peak season, not its average. The ad's shipping promise is yours, not the supplier's, and December is when the gap shows.

## The print on demand calendar, autumn 2026 to summer 2027

POD shops can follow every holiday, because a new design costs nothing to list. The catch is production time: every gift deadline lands a few days earlier than for shops shipping from stock.

| When | Moment | What to run |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Now to Oct 31, 2026 | Halloween and autumn | Seasonal designs and foraging-season themes. Halloween orders need production days, so stop Halloween ads about a week before. |
| Nov 26 to 30, 2026 | Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday | Bundles beat discounts: tee plus tote, with the free-shipping rule on the ad. |
| Dec 1 to about Dec 10 | Gift deadline | Work back from USPS Ground Advantage (Dec 17) minus 3-5 business days of production: about Thursday, Dec 10. Put your date in every gift ad. |
| Dec 11 to 24 | After the cutoff | Digital gift cards, or "order now, wear it in the new year". |
| Feb 1 to 14, 2027 | Valentine's Day | Matching sets and couple designs, with the order-by date a week ahead. |
| Wed, Mar 17, 2027 | St. Patrick's Day | A quick seasonal design; start ads two weeks out. |
| Apr 18 to Jun 20, 2027 | Parents' days: Sun, May 9 to Sun, Jun 20 | Gift designs and personalized options, worded as "with any name you choose". |
| Late July to August | Back to school | Totes and campus-friendly designs. |

## What people ask about print on demand ads

**How do I advertise print on demand products?**

Pick your best design, order a sample, and photograph it worn somewhere that fits the design's audience. Then run a few ads that each lead with a different reason: the design, the fabric and print quality, delivery time, a bundle. Keep the ad that sells and make new versions of it.

**How do I promote a print on demand business?**

Narrow the audience first. A shop for one interest (mushroom foragers, birders, runners) can make designs, photos and ads that speak to that group, which a general shop can't. Collect reviews from early buyers and put them in your ads word for word.

**Do Facebook ads work for print on demand?**

They can, but margins are thin, so the ads have to convert. What helps most is real photos of printed samples, a clear audience for each design, and bundles that raise order value. A mockup-only ad with a generic design is the setup most likely to lose money.

**How much do print on demand Facebook ads cost?**

There's no fixed price: you set a daily budget and pay through Meta's auction, and costs vary by audience and season. Work back from your margin. If a tee earns you $10 after printing and shipping, you know what each sale can cost before the ad stops making sense.

**Should I use mockups in print on demand ads?**

Use them to test which designs people click, then switch to real photos of a printed sample for any design that sells. Printed colors are often flatter than mockups, and an ad that looks better than the parcel leads to returns and bad reviews.

**What are good print on demand ad ideas?**

An opinion headline about made-to-order, the design worn where its audience spends time, a callout ad that reads like a field guide, a review card, a text thread where a friend asks where the shirt is from, and a bundle offer. All six are sample ads on this page.

**What should print on demand ad copy say?**

Who the design is for, what the blank is made of, and when it arrives. "Hand-drawn. Printed when you order. Ships in 3 to 5 business days." covers all three. Leave out "premium quality"; name the fabric and the inks instead.

**Can I run Google ads for print on demand?**

Yes. Google Shopping uses your product feed, and Display and Performance Max campaigns use image ads in square and wide sizes. Every paid StoreToAds ad comes in 1:1 and 1.91:1 among its five sizes, so the same designs can run there too.

**Should I advertise print on demand products on Etsy?**

Etsy Ads promote your listings inside Etsy search and can be a low-effort start. Outside Etsy, you can run Meta and Pinterest ads that link to the listing; paste the listing link into StoreToAds and it builds ads from that listing's photos and price.

**What are some print on demand ads examples?**

The seven ads on this page are one set for one design: a market-day photo, an opinion headline, a field-notes callout ad, a review card, a tee-and-tote offer, a text thread and a checklist. Each one leads with a different reason to buy the same shirt.
